The University of Edinburgh will offer three
scholarships to students from Tanzania for postgraduate Master's study
in any subject offered by the University for the 2013-2014 academic
session.
The Julius Nyerere Scholarship was set up in 2009 in memory of
Mwalimu Julius Nyerere who led Tanganyika to independence in 1961 and
became the first prime minister and later president of Tanzania. Nyerere
received a scholarship in 1949 to attend the University of Edinburgh
where he obtained a Masters of Arts degree that saw him study courses in
English, Political Economy, Social Anthropology, British History,
Economic History, Constitutional Law, and Moral Philosophy.The Julius Nyerere Master's Scholarships will cover the full overseas tuition fee, living costs of £10,000, and a return flight from Tanzania to the UK. The scholarships will be tenable for one academic year. |

The scholarships will be awarded to Tanzanian citizens who are
normally resident in Tanzania, and who are accepted for admission on a
full-time basis for a postgraduate Master's programme of study at the
University of Edinburgh. Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so. |

2013-2014 Ioma Evans-Pritchard/Commonwealth Scholarship at Oxford
The African Studies Centre, University of Oxford is now accepting
applications for the 2013-2014 Ioma Evans-Pritchard/Commonwealth
Scholarship. The scholarship is a part of the development of African and
Interdisciplinary Studies, and it is hosted at St Anne’s College in
conjunction with the African Studies Centre, University of Oxford.
Worth of Award
The Scholarship will cover the full university and college fees and a maintenance allowance for a suitably qualified student applying for the MSc African Studies.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship candidates must:
• Be nationals of a Commonwealth developing country,* and not at present living or studying in a developed country;
• Have not undertaken studies lasting one year or more in a developed country;
• Be able to confirm in writing that neither they or their families are able to pay for them to study in the UK;
• Be willing to return to their home country as soon as their award comes to an end (the Commonwealth Commission will only consider requests to extend leave to remain in the UK post-award for those wishing to progress from Master’s to PhD study and strict conditions will apply).
In order to be considered for the Scholarship you must indicate in the funding section of your admissions application that you intend to apply for Ioma Evans-Pritchard/Commonwealth Scholarship and you must name St. Anne’s your first college choice.
Your application for admission to the course must be submitted to the Graduate Admissions office by the closing date of the 2nd application deadline (18 January 2013) if you wish to be considered for the Ioma Evans-Pritchard/Commonwealth Scholarship. Incomplete applications received by this deadline will not be considered for this award.
Deadline: January 18, 2013
Results will be announced by the end of April 2013.

The Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF),Policy Research for Development (REPOA) and International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) scholarship
APPLICATION FOR MA DEVELOPMENT STUDIES JANUARY 2013 INTAKE
The Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) and Policy Research for Development (REPOA) in partnership with the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University Rotterdam in The Hague, The Netherlands, are inviting applications for MA in Development Studies. The course is jointly delivered and managed by the three institutions, where ISS is the Masters Degree awarding institution. The two Majors of the ISS Master’s in Development Studies that are proposed for this arrangement are Social Policy for Development (SPD) and Agrarian and Environmental Studies (AES).
Course Structure: After completing the 10-months Postgraduate Diploma in Poverty Analysis programme, which runs from August-June, successful students will have the opportunity to apply (as a form of lateral-entry student) to the MA Development Studies at ISS, with an exemption to be given for the whole first term at ISS (September-December). Your stay for course work at ISS would be from January-June (6 months), which will also include the preparations for the Research Paper. After students have left ISS, there will be shared supervision (at a distance learning with e-mail and skype communications), which will be jointly done with ISS and ESRF/REPOA supervisors in Tanzania.
Target Group: Graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma in Poverty Analysis.
Requirements: The entrée requirements which the Diploma Course uses are the same as ISS, and will therefore have students with minimally a BA/BSc II2 (for Tanzania no specific English language tests are required) and a Diploma Degree, to apply for this shortened version of the MA in Development Studies.

Japanese Government Scholarships for Students:(Monbukagakusho: MEXT Scholarship Program)
APPLICATION FOR 2013 SCHOLARSHIP IS NOW OPEN
Monbukagakusho (The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Government of Japan) offers 3 types of scholarships to study at Japanese schools commencing in the 2013 Japanese academic year (starting in April and/or September/October). - 1. Research Students
(1) 2 Years (including 6 months of Japanese language training), extendable with permission from MEXT
(2) Applicant must have been born on or after 2 April 1978
(3) Applicant must have graduated from undergraduate studies
2. Undergraduate Students
(1) 5 Years (including 1 year of Japanese language training) or 4 Years (without Japanese language training), 7 Years for medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or 6 Years for pharmacy (including 1 year of Japanese language training)
(2) Applicant must have been born between 2 April 1991 and 1 April 1996
(3) Applicant must have graduated from A Level Secondary School by March 2013

All application documents must arrive by the deadline date.
Please read the requirements carefully as only
applications which include all the required forms, certificates,
documents and photographs can be considered.
Our Embassy will inform
successful applicants that their application has passed the first
screening as well as time and date for a short interview.
Our Embassy will not contact
unsuccessful applicants regarding their failure, nor will it answer
questions concerning the reason of the results.
All successful applicants are required to present their original birth and academic certificates as well as their passport at the time of their interviews.
