2013 Research Assistant Position, Africa Rice Center, Tanzania

The Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice) is offering Research Assistant position in Agronomy. The job will be based at AfricaRice’s research station in Tanzania. The students must hold masters degree in the field of or equivalent in agronomy, soil science and any closely related field.The initial appointment is for two years with the possibility for renewal.

About Scholarship: The Research Assistant-Agronomy will attend to all activities related to Agronomy at AfricaRice and is responsible and reports to the Systems Agronomist working in the Sustainable Productivity Enhancement Program.
She/he will be part of a multi-disciplinary Research team working to sustain and improve the productivity of rice-based systems in Africa in line with AfricaRice’s mission and mandate. Africa Rice Center encourages applications from women and developing country professionals.

Eligibility:
-Education: M.Sc. degree or equivalent in agronomy, soil science or any closely related field
2 -Work experience: Experience in working with a range of stakeholders such as farmers, scientists, public and private partners and NGOs, is preferred; experience in farm surveys, conducting on-farm research trials preferably with rice.
-Knowledge on statistical analysis of research data, familiar with computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access are required
- The selected candidate should be prepared for extensive work-related travel within the research area of AfricaRice
- She/he should be able to take initiatives and work satisfactorily with a minimum supervision in a multicultural setting
-The candidate should communicate fluently (orally and in writing) in English.
