Department for International Development Scholarship for Developing Commonwealth Countries in UK, 2013-2014Eligibility:•Are a national of one of the countries listed and not at present living or studying in a developed country.
•hold a first degree at either first class or upper second-class level
•have not previously studied for one year or more in a developed country
•are themselves, or through their families, unable to pay to study in the UK
•will return to their home country as soon as their period of study is complete. In some circumstances a student may be permitted to remain in the UK if seeking doctoral study and they satisfy certain strict conditions

For Whom: International (Students of Developing Commonwealth Countries)
Description: Commonwealth Shared Scholarships, set up by DFID in 1986, represent a unique partnership between the United Kingdom government and UK Universities. To date, more than 3,500 students from developing Commonwealth countries have been awarded Shared Scholarships. Without these awards they would not otherwise have been able to benefit from UK higher education. The aim of the scheme is to assist students from developing Commonwealth countries who are of excellent academic calibre but for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the UK. The scheme allows them to benefit from postgraduate study at a university in the UK which will help them to contribute toward the development of their home countries.

Duration of award(s): Scholarship is offered for one year.
What does it cover? The award covers tuition fees, return airfares and living costs (£917 per month) for a one-year taught Masters programme.
Selection Criteria: Candidates will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, satisfactory references and a personal statement of not more than 500 words.
