 University of the People (UoPeople) is the world’s first non-profit, degree-granting, tuition- free online university dedicated to opening the gates to higher education for all individuals otherwise constrained.

The University embraces the worldwide presence of the Internet and dropping technology costs to bring tuition-free Undergraduate Degree Programs to qualified high school graduates around the world. UoPeople offers Associates and Bachelors degree programs in Business Administration and Computer Science. 
With the support of academic leadership from top universities and having admitted more than 1500 students from 136 countries to date, UoPeople is well on its way to becoming a global higher education leader.
Based on the principles of e-learning and peer-to-peer learning, coupled with open-source technology and Open Educational Resources, UoPeople is designed to provide access to undergraduate degree programs for qualified individuals, despite financial, geographic or societal constraints.

Eligibility: UoPeople is open to accept applications from all applicants who submit a certificate of graduation from secondary school (i.e. who has graduated high school), demonstrate proficiency in English to complete the English-only courses and have access to a computer and to an Internet connection.

Scholarship benefits:
 UoPeople is a tuition-free online university offering distance-learning courses. The University is a tuition-free, non-profit institution. It does not charge students to take classes, does not charge for any reading and other study materials, as well as does not charge for annual enrollment.

UoPeople operates on a limited budget without sacrificing the quality of education by employing collaborative and open-source e-learning. UoPeople embraces peer-to-peer and collaborative learning to provide university-level programs to a global student body. Within the online study communities, students share resources, exchange ideas, discuss weekly topics, submit assignments and take exams.
A community of educators comprised of active and retired professors, librarians, master-level students and other professionals participate in the educational activity and oversee the assessment process of this tuition-free online education model.


Method of Application: 
 Applicants need to complete the application requirements and undergo an application process in order to be accepted into the program. If you are interested and want to become a student at University of the People, you must follow instructions as outlined on the Admissions Page.

DEADLINES: The admission process is administered in 5 terms annually. Applications are now open again. Applicants should follow the 5-step application process. The next deadline is 3rd October 2013 for term 2 starting November 2013.
PLEASE NOTE: Once you start your application, the system gives you a timeframe within which to complete it. Applications that are not completed within the specified timeframe will be automatically rejected.
The UoPeople is the world’s first tuition-free online university. However, in order to remain sustainable, applicants are charged a non-refundable one time $10-$50 Application Processing Fee to cover the cost to review and process an application. In September 2012, when new application acceptance will re-open, the University will be introducing an Exam Processing Fee of $100 per end-of-course exam. Applicants who apply starting in September and become students, are expected to pay this fee.

However, for those individuals who are unable to do so, UoPeople will have a Micro-Scholarship Portal that will enable donors to contribute directly to individual students in need of assistance. The University is approved to operate by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education but is not an 
accredited institution (for additional details: http://www.uopeople.org/groups/accreditation).
