Chevening Scholarship for Commonwealth Developing Countries in UK 2014-2015 at CBA institutes

Scholarship Description: This scholarship is offered by  CBA and the Foreign Commonwealth Office to pursue Postgraduate Media Courses at City University London, the University of East Anglia and the University of Westminster.


Eligible students are full-time staff of  the member organizations of  CBA (full members and affiliates) as well as others  from  Commonwealth developing countries.

Eligibility Criteria for Selection:
•To be eligible one must come from : Botswana, Cameroon,the following countries: Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St Kitts, St Vincent and the Grenadine, Trinidad and Tobago, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Tonga.
•Scholarship Candidates have to be full-time staff of the member organizations of CBA (full members and affiliates) from eligible developing countries.


 Make sure you check the CBA list to make sure that the organization you are from  is a member.
•Must meet  the  Chevening eligibility criteria (including  but not limited to  English language requirements) before submitting their application for review.
•Must as well meet the eligibility requirements of the particular university that they are applying for.

Scholarship Provider: The scholarship is  partly sponsored by the Chevening Scholarship Programme of the Government of the United Kingdom  as well as by the: University of East Anglia,The University of Westminster, City Universityof  London, Goodenough College, International Students House and the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association.

How many awards  are  offered: Three bursaries.

Time frame of the awards: The bursaries cover a period of  one-year for  postgraduate courses in  subjects related to broadcast at London City University,the University of Westminster and the University of East Anglia.

Worth of the scholarship:
  One full Scholarship award will cover:
• Tuition fees  payment  (up to a certain limit – check individual country pages on the Chevening website for details of fee caps);
• travel expenses to and from your country of residence via an approved route for only the candidate;
• An Allowance on arrival;
• Entry clearance costs (visa) application for only the candidate;
• Thesis or dissertation preparation grant (if required);
• Excess baggage allowance;
• Living allowance (monthly living allowance) to cover accommodation and living expenses . The amount of  monthly allowance depends on whether  you  study inside or outside London. Currently it is £948 per month outside the London metropolitan area and £1173 per month in  the London metropolitan area (defined as being within the M25) or where your university is a member of the University of London. These rates are subject to annual review.


Criteria for Being Selected:

 You will need to demonstrate thae following qualities:
• have the personal, intellectual and interpersonal qualities necessary for leadership in your home country;
• are motivated to develop your career in order to establish a position of leadership in your own country within 10 years of your Scholarship;
• have a clear post-Scholarship plan, outlining your career objectives and how you plan to achieve them;
• are committed to networking to find global solutions;
• are committed to networking within the Chevening community, via online engagement and attending Chevening events in the UK and engaging with the alumni network in your home country;
• are able to use your studies and experience in the UK to benefit yourself, your country and the UK;
• are capable of successfully undertaking and completing your proposed course of study in the UK.
